A book of essays and interviews on film pedagogy in higher education, Previous Steps examines the training of filmmakers within film schools, addressing curriculum design, teaching strategies, and project mentoring in order to rethink how, why, and for what purpose we train filmmakers.
The project began as Iván Bustinduy’s thesis at Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola (San Sebastián, Spain) and later expanded into a book with the support of an Ibermedia grant. Previous Steps also received a Fulbright grant awarded by Spain’s Ministry of Culture. It was published in Argentina by TAIPEI Libros in November 2026 and will be published in Spain and the United States in 2027.
